Halsetown Inn

Our Story
Welcome to Halsetown
In 1831, Mr James Halse who lived near St Ives developed an ambition to be elected as the area’s MP at Westminster. The problem was, in the 1800’s only men with land were allowed to vote. Halse set about building one of the first planned villages in the country – including houses for his 80 or so miners. He didn’t stop with the houses either, and Halsetown also boasted a brand new school with master’s house, a chapel and cemetery, several wells – and a pub, The Halsetown Inn.
On polling day on 11 December 1832, his new landowners duly elected James Halse to parliament. One can only imagine the celebrations that took place in The Halsetown Inn that evening.
200 years later, May 2021, in the aftermath of a global pandemic, Mark Tindal, a successful Scottish businessman and entrepreneur from Penzance opens the doors to a lockdown-exhausted public, ready for a warm inviting Sunday lunch and a pint in the beer garden.
Want to know how to cook these amazing meals yourself? Mark and his team has you covered too. The cooking school at the Halestown has one simple objective; to share the love of freshly-made traditional food with everyone at prices everyone can afford and at all skill levels.

What People are Saying

My husband and I visited The Halsetown Inn for a Sunday roast (which happened to be on our first wedding anniversary). My husband has an allergy to both milk and soya so ahead of us booking he phoned to see if they’d be able to cater for him. He spoke to the landlady who was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and what ingredients were in what. When we arrived, all of the staff were friendly and seemed happy to be there which is always nice. The landlady reconfirmed the roast was good for my husband and also made sure that I didn’t miss out (thank you for popping my husbands yorkie on my plate!) The food itself was amazing and tasted fresh. The cherry on top of the cake though has to have been the desserts… the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world good! They also had a vegan chocolate brownie on the menu which my husband could have… we can’t remember the last time we were both able to sit and have a pud! Thank you for making our visit as great as it was; we’ll be back again the next time we visit St Ives!

“A must visit when in St. Ives”
Recently visited the Hasletown inn when on holiday and they very kindly fit in our group for our Nans birthday. Service was excellent. Unsure if it was the manageress but she was very friendly and attentive. Menu had such a wide choice of great options. mAde it incredibly hard to choose! Had the homemade ham terrine with piccalilli for a starter, and the sea bass and mussels with a lobster sauce for a main. Both fantastic. People in our party had the steak, confit of duck and the fish curry. All amazing. Rare you get a place doing many dishes so well. Highly recommended

“Excellent meal”
Ate here while staying down the lane at polmanter Touring park. Met at the door by a member of staff who checked our temperatures.
There was plenty of choice on the menu and on the specials board, we had the creamy wild mushrooms on sourdough bread starter, followed by the sea bass and muscles and I had the southern fried chicken that I didn’t want to end! Then lemon tart and ice cream to finish!
The service was very good, and the staff all very friendly, would definitely go back again.

We ate here whilst staying at the campsite nearby. The service was fantastic; friendly and they couldn’t have done more to help us. The menu was great- hard for us to choose. The food itself was just delicious. They accommodated our children so well too. We would absolutely recommend eating here and we will definitely be back next time we visit. Thank you for a great family experience on our wedding anniversary!
